Sidewalk Chalk Arts and Photography Festival

Sidewalk Chalk Arts  and Photography Festival

Artists of all ages were able to register. They all received a box of chalk and a space at the Colony Street Parking Lot.

It's been a great day and we're all here. Children were able to display their great artistic talent and parents were able to explore new horizons.

This was a great experience for children and parents.

Josh's Jungle

Josh's Jungle

Josh's Jungle playground is officially open in Hamden, CT; located at Town Center Park, on Dixwell Avenue. The new playground accommodates handicapped children. Children of all abilities can come and play together.

We should all give a big round of applause to the Tramontano family, and Josh, in particular, for their efforts, which led to the creation of this magnificent playground.

Hamden Farmers' Market

Hamden Farmers' Market

The market has been opened since June 24th and it will remain open until October 7th. This is an outdoor event where you will find booths, tables and stands.  All produce sold at the market is grown in Connecticut.

Farmers are able to sell their produce  directly to consumers.

You can also find prepared food and refreshments. The event is taking place at the Miller Memorial Central Library lower parking lot, located at 2901 Dixwell Avenue, Hamden, CT. Come and support Connecticut small farming businesses.

This is the best farmers market I have ever seen in Hamden.

THE HAMDEN ELKS CONDUCTED FLAG DAY CEREMONY IN HAMDEN

THE HAMDEN ELKS CONDUCTED FLAG DAY CEREMONY IN HAMDEN

National Observance of Flag Day on June 14th.

Flag Day, in the United States of America, is a day for all citizens, who live in this country, to celebrate and show respect for the American flag. The Hamden Elks, Lodge #2224, conducted their annual Flag Day Ceremony on June 14th, 2013.  Everyone within the community was invited to this free event. The Flag Day Ceremony was held in the Lodge upper hall. The event included Officers of Hamden Lodge. Local Girl Scout Troops 60228, 64179, 60137 and Boy Scout Troop 610, celebrated Flag Day during Flag Day Ceremony, at the Lodge, and presented the history of our nation’s flag with replicas of each historical flag; then, the boys and girls raised “Old Glory” for all to see by demonstrating the flag folding ceremony.

Members of the community shared a sense of national pride during this wonderful celebration. They learned the history of the American flag, the meaning of showing respect to the flag and the proper manner of displaying and folding the American flag.  Josephine O’Neil said in a press release, “Elks Lodges across the nation and its territories are mandated to celebrate Flag Day, which was initiated by the National Elks.” We shouldn't forget about all those soldiers who have given their lives protecting our flag. They made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our freedom.

Josephine O’Neil, also mentioned in the press release that the Hamden Elks is “an organization dedicated to patriotism, service to our hospitalized veterans, as well as youth.” Hamden Town Clerk Vera Morrison was also present during the celebration. She addressed the listeners as guest speaker. I wish more citizens would get involved in the Flag Day celebration in the near future. I think, we should all show more appreciation for the freedom we have in this country, no matter where we come from.

Spring Student Concert in Hamden, CT-May 5, 2013 / Family Music Center, did it again!

Family Music Center students performed in front of a live audience. Interpreters fascinated the audience with their talents during the Spring concert. They performed at "The Spaceland Ballroom" on May 5th, 2013, Hamden, CT. More than 30 students performed on this day. The entire show lasted three hours.

There was a great environment at “The Spaceland Ballroom”. It was a nice way for parents and friends to get out and to get together with other people in the community and enjoy the concert.

Mia Hall was a passionate vocalist and energetic performer. Mia received the biggest ovation from the audience. The most amazing moment of Mia's performance was hearing her interpretation of "Titanium" by David Guetta. We found great talent among all the performers. Here are the names of all performers: Calvin Sunandar, piano; Erica Jones, piano; Etsri Koudayah, piano; Nikki Acevedo, piano; Michael Flynn, piano; Ezakiel Daye, saxophone; Nina Allison, guitar; Ron Hurt, bass guitar; Jacob Ward, guitar, keyboard and vocals; Rob Mitchell, drums; Denasia Dubose, bass guitar; Jocelyn Dryfoos, piano; Aviva Yussman, violin; Gefen Yussman, alto saxophone; Celine Boonto, violin; Tanisha Gupta, violin; Lara Akbas, violin; Alissa Jones, violin; Ray Cue, violin; A.J.Copeland, guitar; Ehsan Sumra, guitar; Tyler Karge, guitar; Trent Liseo, drums; Mia Hall, guitar and vocals; Vincent Dominguez, guitar; Kyle Mercado, guitar; Calvin Weingart, bass guitar; Zack Matto, guitar and trumpet; Matt Suraci, soprano, alto, tenor saxophone; and Zack Weingart, drums, tenor saxophone and guitar.
